Shane Ward Hired as Head Golf Coach

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner University Athletics Director Shawn Gary has announced today (November 6) the hiring of former Royals golfer Shane Ward (Warner ’06), as the coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams.

Ward inherits a men’s team that is currently ranked in the Top 25 according to Golfstat and a women’s program that is on the rise. With the fall season wrapped up, he will lead the Royals in the spring season when they open their spring schedule in the Start 2 Finish Tournament in Lakeland, Fla.

Ward was a member of the Warner golf team his first three years at Warner before ascending to the professional ranks his senior year. He entered the Professional Golfers’ Association of America Professional Golf Management Program (PGA PGM) his final year.

Ward returns to his alma mater after working as a golf professional at two country clubs. He got his start as the Assistant Golf Professional at the Lake Wales Country Club and he is currently the Head Golf Professional at Placid Lakes Country Club in Lake Placid, Fla.

He graduated with his B.A. in Sports Management and is currently working on his MBA at Webber International University. Ward is married to former Warner classmate Sole Ward.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
