DELAND, Fla. – The Warner University men and women’s cross country teams competed at the Sodexho Stetson Hatter Invitational held at the Sperling Sports Complex in Deland, Fla., over the weekend.  In the men’s division East Tennessee State University took home top honors while the University of North Florida captured first place in the women’s division. 

On the women’s side, Warner placed 15th out of 20 teams that included NCAA Division I & II schools.  Tranese Boston led the way for the Royals setting the pace with a time of 20:32.  Also running for the Royals were Melissa Darr (22:48), Ashley Barstow (22:54), Rhonda Rininger (23:23), Moriah Blanford (23:33), Julia Mays (25:07) and Jessica Osegueda (25:09).

The men’s team place 11th out of 18 teams and were led by Orssie Bumpus who finished in 27:08.  Behind him were Josh Wood (29:26), Jaeden Hamernik (31:20), Alex Russell (31:41), Chris Rivera (31:44), Troy Alston (31:59) and Chris Moon (32:07).

The men and women’s teams will now take a break from competition to prepare for the upcoming Sun Conference Championships on November 7th to be held in Babson Park, Fla., by Webber International University.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
