Men's Golf Placed Sixth at Saint Leo Invitational
Adrian Kibsey helped lead the Royals to a Sixth Place Finish

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Warner University men’s golf team shot a combined 944 in the 2009 Saint Leo Invitational held on the South Course of Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club to finish in sixth place.  Host Saint Leo University won the team championship by shooting a combined 901 while Nicolas Jutigny of University of Tampa claimed the top individual honors. 

Ian Ross carded a 235 (78-76-81) to finish in the top 20 and to lead the Royals. Matthew Alwin finished two strokes behind Ross to close out the tournament tied for 22nd. Alwin shot his tournament best 78 in the final round to finish with a score of 237 (79-80-78).  Adrian Kibsey also performed well for the Royals tallying two consecutive rounds of a score of 78 to finish with a 239 (78-78-83). Preston Knox and Corey Meade rounded out the Royals with scores of 240 (83-76-81) and 247 (91-79-77) respectively.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
