Men's Golf Places 12th at Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Warner University men's golf team wrapped up their 2009 fall schedule with a 12th place finish at the Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design.  The host team, SCAD, took home team first place honors with a three-round score of 853 (286, 276, 291) putting them at 1-over for the tournament.  Loren Bunting, also from SCAD, was the top individual scorer posting a three round 208 (72, 65, 71) good enough for 5 under par.

The Royals team consisting of Matt Alwin, Adrian Kibsey, Ian Ross, Austin Robillard and Chase Highley finished with a three round score of 971 (315, 322, 334).

Alwin led the way shooting a 233 (72, 78, 83) and was followed closely by Kibsey's 234 (80, 75, 79).

Ian Ross shot a 240 (78, 81, 81), Austin Robillard finished with a 264 (85, 88, 91) and Chase Highley rounded out the Royals scoring with a 278 (90, 92, 96).

The men's team will now turn their attention to the Spring for what will be a very competitive season.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
