Warner Softball Signs Nicolette Hopps

SEFFNER, Fla. – Warner University head softball coach Shawn Gary continues to sign premiere talent to the softball team as Gary has recently inked Nicolette Hopps of Valrico, Fla. to the 2011 squad.

Hopps, a five-year starter for Seffner Christian Academy will add versatility to the Royals 2011 lineup as she played three positions last season (catcher, third base and short stop) and played second base and catcher her first three years with the Crusaders.  The back-to-back Team MVP was ranked third in the state and 15th in the nation according to MaxPreps in hitting last season, finishing the season with a .648 batting avg., 1.268 slugging percentage, 58 RBI’s, 46 hits, 15 doubles, seven triples and five homeruns.  Hopps’ extraordinary numbers earned her All-Bay Conference honors and Second Team All-Hillsborough County honors as a junior.

In her freshman and sophomore campaigns, Hopps earned All-County Honorable Mention honors. As a sophomore, she was ranked second in the state in batting average according to MaxPreps with a .656 average. As a freshman she picked up the Softball Coaches Award and in her eighth grade year she earned the team’s Best Softball Player Award.

Hopps also plays travel ball for the highly-touted South Florida Mini Bulls. Previously she played for the Bloomingdale Bullets, Plant City Sizzlers, Clearwater Bombers and Clearwater Bullets.

Hopps is equally dynamic off the field as she boasts a 3.9 GPA and was inducted in to the National Honor Society this past April. Along with playing softball, she is the Head Band Officer of the Seffner Christian Academy Concert Band, the Yearbook Editor for the school’s Yearbook, and the Student Body Vice-President.  This past school year she was honored with the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student Award for outstanding achievement in leadership and athletics.

The senior also finds time to volunteer with Seffner Christian’s Helping Hands Project and the Seffner Christian Preschool . Last year, she was the manager for the Varsity Girls Basketball Team.

Hopps is the daughter of Douglas and Tami Hopps.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
