LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University men’s soccer team extended their win streak to six matches tonight (Nov. 3) as they defeated Clearwater Christian College 2-0 on Royals Field. The win gave the Royals their second consecutive season of double-digit wins as they improved to 10-5-1 while the Royals snapped the Cougars drop to 13-2-3 for the season.

Prior to the match, four seniors were honored in style as they entered the field in a stretch limo, the seniors honored were: Logan Brewer , Jaime Garzon , Arturo de la Fuente and Mauricio Castano .

In the first half, the two teams engaged in a scoreless defensive battle until the 40th minute when Sean Smith rebounded a deflected shot and fired a shot in the left corner of the net to score the Royals first goal to give the Royals the 1-0 lead.

The second half saw the Royals elevate the intensity as they pressured the Cougars defense, outshooting the Cougars 10 to one with three on goal.  In the 88th minute, the Royals put the game away on a goal from Pablo Anselmo .

The Royals look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Hardeeville, S.C. to face Savannah College of Art & Design in the semifinals of the Sun Conference Tournament.  The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
