Royals Fall to #22 Crusaders

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Warner University women's volleyball team took a break from Sun Conference play tonight and fell to #22 Madonna University.  The loss drops the Royals to 14-12 overall while the Crusaders improved to 31-6 on the year.  

The Royals were led offensively by Ashley Even who offered up 24 assists while Brittany Woods and Dayna Sechrest put down 7 and 6 kills respectively.  

Madonna setter Inta Grinvalds paced the Crusaders' attack with 26 assists while Liz Dempsey led all scorers with 10 kills.

The Royals return to Sun Conference action tomorrow night, November 6, as they host Florida Memorial University and also celebrate senior night.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
