Cross Country Performs Well at Conference Championships

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Senior Tranese Boston qualified for her third consecutive NAIA National Cross Country Championships as she led the Warner University women’s cross country team to a third place finish in the Sun Conference Cross Country Championships.  The men’s team also raced well as they finished fourth in the Conference Championships.

Boston ran her second best time of the season, as she clocked in with a time of 20:05 to finish seventh in the individual competition and to earn All-Conference honors.  Melissa Darr closed out the season strong, running a season best 22:29 to finish 19th overall in the 5k race.  Maxime Copley also ran well, crossing the finish line in 23:19.  Rhonda Rininger (23:27), Ashley Barstow (23:46), Moriah Blanford (24:16) and Jessica Osegueda all finished in the top 35 while April Girard rounded out the Royals runners with her season best time of 27:47.

On the men’s side, Orssie Bumpus ran a strong race, averaging 5:58 per mile to finish the race in 29:40 and place 14th in the individual competition.  Freshman Zachary Johnson broke his personal record as he clocked in at 30:54 in the 8k race.  Jonathan Woods quickly followed with a time of 31:00.  Not too far behind were Ahmad Rutherford , Alex Russell and Josh Woods who finished the race in 31:36, 31:49 and 31:52 respectively.  Chris Rivera (32:07), Jaeden Jamernik (32:08), Troy Alston (32:31) and Jonathan Nusbaum closed out the Royals runners.

Boston will travel to Fort Vancouver, Ore. to represent Warner University in the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 21; the race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. (PST).

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
