Men's Tennis Inks First Signee of 2009-10 Season
New signee Joe Nichols

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner University head tennis coach Jose Martinez has inked his first recruit for the 2009-10 men’s tennis team with the signing of Joe Nichols of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Nichols transfers to Warner after spending his freshman year at Purdue University.  Prior to his time at Purdue, he attended Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was a four-year varsity player. While at Concordia Lutheran, Nichols earned Team MVP and First Team All-Conference honors.

“Joe will be a model student-athlete at Warner,” stated Coach Martinez.  “He will add immediate depth to our team and have the opportunity to compete for a top six position next year,” added Martinez.

Nichols is the son of John and Jill Nichols and will major in Business Management.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
