Melissa Darr Qualified for World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Melissa Darr can now add World University Games Qualifier to her list of achievements for the 2009 season as her time in the 400m hurdles finals in the NAIA Outdoor National Championships qualified her for the World University Games (a.k.a. Universiade) in Belgrade, Serbia held July 7-12.

Darr, the 2009 The Sun Conference 400m Hurdles Champion, broke her personal record in the event three times while competing in the national championships.  She advanced to the finals by racing to a second place finish in her heat in the prelims with a time of 1:03.71 and then she improved on her time in the semis by trimming her time to 1:03.01 to compete in the finals where she surpassed the World University Games qualifying mark of 1:04.50, with her personal best time of 1:02.32, good for seventh place finish.

Darr, a NAIA Scholar-Athlete, is one of only five The Sun Conference student-athletes to qualify for the 25th installment of the biennial event.
