Men & Women's Golf Teams Compete at Webber Intercollegiate

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University men and women’s golf teams competed in the 16th Annual Webber Intercollegiate Golf Tournament over the weekend.  The Royals had a good showing; with the women’s team finishing third while the men’s team finished eighth.  Tournament host Webber International University captured first place honors in the women’s division shooting a 648 (320-328).   Brevard Community College took first place in the men’s division shooting a two day 586 (291-295).

Katie Learn paced the women’s team with a two day score of 170 (87-83).  Learn also posted the lowest round score on the team with her 83 on Sunday.  Along with Learn, Ashley Miller (89-90), Victoria Moreno (124-115), and Shelby Jackson (109-132) each combined to give the Royals a two day total of 820 (409-411).

The men’s team was led by Matthew Alwin (73-75), Ian Allen (73-76), Ian Ross (76-76), Preston Knox (80-79), and Drew Meier (80-80).  The Royals finished with a two day total of 608 (302-306).

The men’s team was also able to place a second team in the tournament.  This group included Cory Meade (78-76), Adrian Kibsey (79-82), Ali Maxwell (83-79), Chase Highley (85-81), and Justin Ford (85-83).  Of the two Warner men’s teams, five players saw their score improve on day two of the tournament. 

This tournament wrapped up the women’s fall schedule, while the men travel to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend, September 28, to play in the Birmingham Southern Invitational.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
