Men's Golf Takes Part in BSC Fall Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Warner University men’s golf team placed 11th at the Birmingham Southern College Fall Shootout.  The Royals compiled a three round score of 940 (313-313-314).  Huntington College took first place honors after posting an 893 (299-294-300) in team competition.  Individually, Matt Hungerman of William Carey University captured top honors with a three round score of 218 (74-73-71).

Matthew Alwin paced the Royals and cracked the top 20 individual scores with his 229 (74-80-75) which tied him for 15th in the field.

Along with Alwin, the Royals team included Ian Ross who shot a 231 (75-79-77), Ian Allen posted a 239 (82-79-78), Drew Meier contributed a 244 (85-75-84), and Preston Knox added a 247 (82-80-85).

The men’s team will now turn their attention to the Saint Leo Invitational on October 20th hosted by Saint Leo University.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
