Box Score

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Sergio Rios claimed his first win as the new head coach of the Warner University men’s volleyball team in convincing fashion as the Royals dominated the College of the Bahamas in three straight sets, 30-18, 30-13, 30-20 to open the 2010 season 1-0 while the Caribs drop to 0-1 in their season opener as well.

The Royals handled the Caribs from start to finish, never allowing them to find any rhythm in the match. The second set was highlighted by some excellent serving from freshman Mark Brutus , who ran off seven service aces to extend the Royals lead to 15-5. Brutus finished the match with a whopping 10 service aces. As a team the Royals finished with 20.

Mark’s older brother Nick Brutus also played well for the Royals, tallying a game-high 12 kills over the course of the three-set match. Newcomer Robert Schramm also played well in his first match as a Royal, totaling nine kills.

Specialist Adrian Kibsey facilitated the high flying Royals attack as he dished 38 assists in his debut.

The Royals return to action against the Caribs tomorrow (Jan. 15) in a 3 p.m. match in the Turner Athletic Center.
