Royals Complete Sweep over Caribs

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University men’s volleyball team completed their three game sweep over visiting College of the Bahamas in straight sets 3-0 (30-16, 30-25, 30-27) on Saturday evening.  The Royals have now opened the 2010 season on a three game winning streak and stand at 3-0.  The loss drops the Caribs to 0-3.

They Royals faced their toughest challenge yet from the Caribs in today’s contest.  The Royals were pushed and matched point for point at times in the second and third sets. Robert Schramm and Nick Brutus were at the front of the Royals’ attack, each posting 13 and 12 kills respectively. 

Schramm turned in his best performance on the short season with a .550 hitting percentage.  He also led the team with 7 service aces, four of which came in the first set.  Darius Shaw chipped in two aces to go with his six kills.

Adrian Kibsey orchestrated it all with 40 assists.  He also chipped in nine digs to lead all defenders.  Skylar Lopas was a defensive presence aswell, knocking down two block assists.

For the Caribs, Rayon Brooks produced 10 kills giving College of the Bahamas their first double digit scorer on the season.  Ricardo Demeritte added 11 assists and three digs in the losing effort.

The Royals will now turn their attention to the Lindenwood University Tournament that begins January 29th in Saint Charles, Missouri.  Game times have yet to be announced.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
