Royals Swept at Lindenwood Invitational

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – It was a tough go for the Warner University men’s volleyball team last weekend at the Lindenwood Invitational as the Royals (3-5, 0-4 MAMVIC East) lost all five matches over the weekend. The Royals were defeated 3-1 (23-30, 19-30, 30-25, 30-32) by #8 Clarke College (Iowa), 3-0 (17-30, 18, 30, 24-30) by #3 Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and 3-0 (26-30, 29-31, 23-30) by #9 Graceland University (Iowa) during Friday’s (Jan. 29) action. Saturday (Jan. 30) proved no better as the Royals were defeated 3-1 (24-30, 30-15, 28-30, 25-30) by Clarke and 3-0 (29-31, 18-30, 21-30) by Cardinal Stritch to close out their play at the Invitational.

Nick Brutus led the Royals offensive attack, totaling 40 kills during the two-day event. Brutus posted his best offensive game in the Friday nightcap against Graceland, posting 13 kills in the match. Robert Schramm followed with 35 total kills for the weekend.

Adrian Kibsey facilitated the Royals attack totaling 179 assists, with an Invitational high 43 assists versus Graceland.

Defensively, Michael Balestri led the team with 15 total digs and Brutus followed with 14 digs. Schramm totaled 18 blocks for the weekend, highlighted by a seven block match (three solo blocks and four block assists) against Cardinal Stritch in Friday’s match.

The Royals take a break from regular season action to host their Warner Exhibition Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
