Royals Strong Second Half Not Enough against Florida Memorial

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Krystal Glass scored a Warner career high 18 points as Warner University (9-15, 3-7 TSC) women’s basketball team was defeated 77-66 by Florida Memorial University (11-12, 7-3 TSC) Saturday afternoon in the Turner Athletic Center.

The first nine minutes of the game saw neither team make any kind of considerable run as the score was 9-8 with the Lions holding the one point lead. From there the Lions began to heat up going on a 22-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 31-12 lead. Glass cut the Royals deficit with two free throws but the Lions responded with a jumper from Kenyetta Davis to push their lead back to 19. The Lions would go on to close out the half with a jumper to take a 21-point lead into the break, 41-20. The Lions lead was bolstered by an eight point half from Shadreeka Collins off the bench.

In the second half, Florida Memorial pushed their lead to as much as 26, 58-32 with 13:31 left in the half. However, the Royals clawed their way back and brought the game to within 12 on a jumper from Glass with 2:16 on the clock. The Lions responded with four consecutive points to push the lead to 16 with only 1:14 remaining in regulation. Warner closed the game with a 5-0 spurt thanks to two more free-throws from Glass and a three from Ivana Soberal to finish the game down 11.

Karyna Cid also had her best offensive game of the season, scoring a season-high 17 points. Soberal and Christina Howard poured in 12 points apiece with Howard grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

The Royals take a needed break from play before returning to action Friday (Feb. 12) when they travel to North Miami, Fla. to face Johnson & Wales University; tipoff is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
