Royals Fall in Straight Sets

LAKE WALES, Fla. – In men’s volleyball action it was a matchup of Royals as the NCAA-III Eastern Mennonite University Royals took down the Warner University Royals in straight sets 3-0 (30-21, 30-26, 30-26) on Thursday night.  The Warner Royals drop to 8-9 on the season while the Eastern Mennonite Royals improve to 6-9.

Brothers Mark and Nick Brutus led the Warner Royals attack posting nine and eight kills respectively.  Darius Shaw got in on the action as well registering six kills.

Robert Schramm had a presence at the net for the Warner Royals tallying one solo block and one block assist while chipping in five kills.  Mark Brutus also provided some defense for the Warner Royals with a solo block and block assist. 

Adrian Kibsey facilitated the Warner Royals attack with 28 assists.

The Warner Royals will now travel to Tampa, Fla. to take part in the Team Connection Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 12-13.  The Royals’ first game is tomorrow against Johnson & Wales University (Colo.) at 12:30 p.m.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
