Men's Volleyball Finishes Fourth in MAMVIC East Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Warner University men’s volleyball team closed out their season with a 3-1 (30-28, 28-30, 20-30, 28-30) loss to #3 seed and tournament host Clarke College (Iowa) in the third place match of the MAMVIC East Tournament Saturday afternoon to finish fourth in the postseason tournament. The Royals close out the season 9-16 while the Crusaders improve to 25-11.

Nick Brutus and Sean Kelly led the Royals attack with 11 and 10 kills apiece while Mark Brutus followed with nine kills and MAMVIC East All-Conference Middle Blocker Robert Schramm finished with eight kills. He also led the team with six blocks (two solo and four block assists) and posted a match-high four service aces.

Schramm was named to the All-Conference and Academic All-Conference team as a freshman after finishing the season with a team leading 70 blocks in the regular season. He also was second on the team in kills with 2.31 kills per set and a .313 hitting percentage.

Mark Brutus also led the Royals defensive front with 15 digs with Michael Balestri following with eight digs. Adrian Kibsey finished the match with 35 assists.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
