LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University softball team took one step closer to earning their third consecutive regular season The Sun Conference Championship after cruising past Edward Waters College 16-2 (5 innings). The Royals extend their win streak to six games and improve their overall to 26-12-1 (11-2) while the Tigers drop to 7-30 (0-13).

Senior Samantha Swofford started on the mound for the Royals and pitched three innings while giving up three hits, two runs while striking out five batters to earn her ninth win of the season. Rebecca Powell pitched two innings of relief work allowing only one hit and striking out two batters.

The Warner offense tallied their ninth double-digit hits game of the season as they totaled 11 hits in the short game. Leading the way for the Royals were Tabatha Martin and Julie Frank who both went 2-for-2 from the plate. Heather Norris led the game with three RBI’s while Frank, Powell, and Hope Franklin each had two RBI’s.

The Royals will look to wrap up their third conference regular season title tomorrow when they play the Tigers in a 12 p.m. doubleheader. In between the games, the Royals will honor their five seniors: Swofford, Norris, Franklin, Franki Grimes and Lindsay Garchinski .

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
