Royals Baseball Eliminated from The Sun Conference Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The #3 seeded Warner University Royals baseball team closed the door on their 2010 season with a 10-0 defeat at the hands of #1 seeded Embry-Riddle University on Monday afternoon on day two of The Sun Conference tournament at the City of Palms Park.  The Royals finish the season at .500 with a 26-26 record.

In a win or go home game for the Royals, starter Brett Stanton through five-and-a-third strong innings allowing only one earned run (two overall).  After Stanton’s exit the Eagles’ offense would hit their stride scoring eight runs over the final two-and-two-thirds innings taking a commanding 10-0 lead. 

The Royals offense was kept in check all afternoon by 2009 All American Justin Zinkovich.  Hunter Reed, Cory Johnson, Ryan Paul and Casey Torrance had the Royals’ only hits on the day as the Royals only managed to put seven runners on base the entire game.

Stanton (6-2) took the loss on the mound tossing the five-and-a-third innings scattering seven hits with two strikeouts.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
