Women's Basketball Adds More to 2010-11 Recruiting Class

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University women’s basketball program is proud to announce the addition of six new recruits for the upcoming 2010-11 season: Tracy Gentry, Amanda Crickenberger, Nisha Poleon, Maria Zervos, Donesha White, and Hillary Hightshoe.

Gentry, a 5’5 guard from Daytona State College will join Warner in the Fall after playing the past two years for Head Coach Cal Cochran. During her two-year stint at Daytona, she earned Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete and FCCAA All-Academic Team honors. Prior to her time at Daytona, Gentry attended Atlantic High School In Port Orange, Fla. where she made 69 three-pointers as a senior and averaged 15 ppg, 4 spg, and 4 apg. While at Atlantic, she earned a 3.5 GPA.

Crickenberger, a 5’11forward from Calvary Christian High School in Ormond Beach, Fla. averaged a double-double her senior season, with 17.6 ppg and 12.6 rpg. Her season performance earned her All-District MVP and All-Area Second Team accolades. She led Calvary Christian to a 23-5 record and a berth to the 1A Regional Tournament where they defeated Foundation Academy of Winter Garden, Fla. to advance to the Regional Semifinals. Crickenberger earned a 3.8 GPA at Calvary and was coached by Head Coach Jack Clark.

Poleon, also a 5’11 forward, joins the Royals from Victory Christian High School in Lakeland, Fla. where she was coached by Head Coach Grady Murrel. She helped lead Victory Christian to a 1A District Championship and a berth to the regional tournament where they were edged 46-44 to Seffner Christian School in the quarter finals. While at Victory Christian she earned a 3.2 GPA.

Zervos, a 5’6 guard from Merritt Island High School averaged 7.2 ppg after helping Merritt Island to a 14-14 09-10 record. She played for Head Coach Michael Carbania and earned a 3.1 GPA.

White, a 5’9 forward from Lake Wales High School averaged 6.4 ppg and earned a 3.4 GPA. She was coached by Head Coach Demetrios Sanders.

Hightshoe, a 5’8 forward from Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Fla. helped to lead the team to the 6A Regional Quarterfinals. She earned a 3.2 GPA and was coached by head coach Pepper Johnson.

These players join Leah Smith, Stephanie Wills, Shawnelle Campbell and Kiara Reeves who have already signed to join the Royals 2010-11 squad.

“I am excited that all of these student-athletes have chosen to continue their education at Warner University.  Their diligence both on the court and in the classroom makes them a perfect fit,” said Head Coach Matt Murphy.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
