Warner Baseball Earns Florida Collegiate Umpires Sportsmanship Award

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Collegiate Umpires voted to select the team that best exemplified sportsmanship in each conference they serve and they chose the Warner University baseball team for The Sun Conference announced Monday at The Sun Conference Baseball Tournament at Palms Park in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The umpires were asked to consider the behavior of the players, coaches, fans, and game management personnel when they made their decision and chose Warner out of the 11-team league. The Royals finished out the 2010 season 26-26 with a 16-10 conference mark, third best in The Sun Conference.

The other schools to earn the distinction for their respective conferences were:

Mid Florida Conference - Lake Sumter Community College

Sun Coast Conference - Pasco Hernando Community College

Southern Conference - Indian River State College

Sunshine State Conference - Eckerd College

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
