Royals Track & Fielders Compete in USF Twilight Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Warner University track and field team closed their regular season Friday (May 14) as they competed in the University of South Florida Twilight Invitational at the USF Track & Field Stadium.

The men’s 4X400m relay team made up of Malcolm Moore , Gary Daughtrey , Chris Moon and Courtney Davis highlighted the Royals performance at the USF Invitational as they finished first in the event with a time of 3:22.16. Davis and Moon also ran in the 400M Dash race and finished with times of 50.18 and 57.54 respectively.

The Royals received a strong showing from Josh Wood who placed second in the High Jump with a mark of 1.83m and third in the 800M Run, clocking a time of 1:54.51, .01 second shy of qualifying for Nationals under the ‘B’ Standard.

Warren Wood , who qualified for Nationals in the Long Jump earlier in the season, continued to work on his jumps as he finished third in the event at USF with a mark of 6.94m. He also ran in the 100M Dash and finished the race in 11.07 seconds.

2010 Sun Conference 400M Hurdles Champion and Nationals qualifier Dyrren Barber ran a time of 55.58 in the event on his way to a fourth place finish.

Orssie Bumpus also competed in the Invitational, finishing fourth in the 800M Run, crossing the finish line at 2:00.35. He also ran in the 1500M Run and finished third with a time of 4:10.93.

Melissa Darr and Ashley Barstow competed in the 200M Dash and finished with times of 27.00 seconds and 28.59 seconds respectively. Barstow also ran in the 400M Dash and clocked a time of 1:06.32 while Darr, who qualified for the 2010 Nationals in the 400M Hurdles and was a Nationals Finalist in the hurdles last year, ran a time of 1:09.25 in the event.

The Royals Nationals qualifiers: Daughtrey (100M, 200M), Moore (400M), Troy Alston (400M Hurdles), Barber (400M Hurdles), the 4X100m Relay Team, the 4X400m Relay Team, Warren Wood (Long Jump), Manolitha Joseph (200M, 400M), Darr (400M Hurdles) and Nicole Pope (Shot Put) will now continue to practice before they depart to Marion, Ind. for the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Nationals Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.

Athletes of the Week
Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
