Warner Track & Field 2010 Season Comes to a Close

MARION, Ind. – The Warner University track & field team’s 2010 season came to a close Friday at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.

Despite improving on her time from Thursday, freshman Manolitha Joseph was not able to advance to the 400M Dash Finals after clocking a 56.59 in the semifinals today, a 0.17 improvement on her Thursday time. Joseph finished sixth in her heat and 12th overall, three places removed from advancing to the finals.

In the field events, the Royals did not fare well as Nicole Pope finished seventh in her heat and 21st overall in the Shot Put with a mark of 12.61m. Warren Wood also finished seventh in his heat in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.77m, good for 24th overall.

Rounding out the Royals competitors were the men’s 4X400M Relay Team made up of Gary Daughtrey, Malcolm Moore, Joshua Wood and Courtney Davis who finished eighth in their heat and 22nd overall with a time of 3:18.59.

Athletes of the Week
Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
