Royals Baseball Prepares for The Sun Conference Tournament

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University baseball will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., this weekend to take part in the 2010 The Sun Conference Tournament hosted by the City of Palms Park (Boston Redsox spring training facility).  The tournament will run Sunday May 9 – Wednesday May 12.  The Royals first game will be Sunday night at 7 p.m. against Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD).

The NAIA No. 9 Embry-Riddle Eagles (Daytona Beach, Fla.) will be the No. 1 seed for the third straight year. Following close behind are the Sand Sharks of South Carolina-Beaufort (Beaufort, S.C.) as the No. 2 seed and the Warner Royals (Lake Wales, Fla.) as the No. 3 seed. Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, Ga.) will be the No. 4 seed, as St. Thomas (Miami Gardens, Fla.) and Florida Memorial (Miami, Fla.) are the fifth and sixth seeds respectively.

The first round will begin on Sunday, May 9, when ERAU takes on the Lions at 11 a.m. Play will continue at 3 p.m. with the Sand Sharks playing the Bobcats. The 7 p.m. contest will feature Warner and SCAD.

Athletes of the Week
Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.

Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
