Softball Inks Porter to 2011 Class

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Head coach Shawn Gary and the Lady Royals’ softball team is pleased to announce the signing of Tiffany Danielle Porter of Fort Meade High School.  Porter is an outfielder for the Miners but will make the transition into the infield for the Royals.

Porter has been a captain for the Lady Miners for three years and has been named the team MVP for three years as well.  In 2009, she earned All-County Honorable Mention recognition.  Porter is a three sport athlete at Fort Meade participating in volleyball, cheerleading and softball.

Off the field, Porter was a 2009-2010 Silver Garland Nominee, a senior class officer and salutatorian of her graduating class.

Athletes of the Week
Mark St. Fort
Men's Basketball

Mark St. Fort has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  St. Fort helped the No. 23 ranked men’s basketball team to a 1-1 week in The Sun Conference play.  Against No. 2 Northwood University, St. Fort scored nine points with six rebounds in a tough 82-58 loss to the Seahawks.  Then on Saturday night, St. Fort had a monster game against Florida Memorial University.  The Royals overcame a 43-38 halftime deficit defeating the Lions 82-74.  St. Fort’s second half performance helped lift the Royals’ offense; the Wauchula, Fla. native tallied 25 points in the second half.  The junior finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

Ethan  Lovell
Baseball

Ethan Lovell has been named the Warner University Athlete of the Week for games played Jan. 23-29.  Lovell helped the Royals baseball squad to a season opening split at Webber International University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 but rallied to take the second game 5-2.  Lovell got his senior season off on the right foot, batting 4-for-7 (.571) in both games.  The Lithia, Fla. native had a double and a triple while also scoring three runs.  Starting in centerfield for the Royals, Lovell recorded five put-outs as well.
